Photo booth template sizes in pixels
A 2x6 photo booth strip is 600 x 1800 pixels at 300 ppi; a 4x6 print is 1800 x 1200 pixels landscape or 1200 x 1800 portrait; and a 5x7 is 2100 x 1500 landscape. Multiply the inches by 300 and you have the pixels.

The rule: inches times 300
TemplatesBooth's size guide says print templates are sized at 300 pixels per inch, the resolution photo booth printers use, so a print template is its size in inches multiplied by 300. Darkroom Software's help center gives the rule in those words: multiply the number of inches by 300. A 2 x 6 inch strip is 600 x 1800 pixels. A 7 x 5 inch print is 2100 x 1500.
Why not 72 ppi
Only the pixel size matters, not the ppi number stored in the file. A strip built at 72 ppi comes out at 144 x 432 pixels and prints blurred, and changing the ppi number afterward does not add detail. Start from 600 x 1800 and you are done.
Two strips on one sheet
TemplatesBooth's size guide says dslrBooth and LumaBooth print a 2x6 strip two per 4x6 sheet, which you then cut in half. dslrBooth added this in version 4.9.15 as a Print 2 per page setting, and LumaBooth has a Print 2 Per Page option for the same job. You still design one strip at 600 x 1800.
The overlay must match the print
Breeze Booth's help says the overlay should be the same size as the print, with transparent areas where the photos show. Snappic says the overlay and the background must have the same resolution and aspect ratio. If your art is a different size from the print, the app has to scale it, and edges and type can blur. What an overlay, a template and a welcome screen each are is explained on its own page.
