How to load a template in Breeze Booth
To load a template in Breeze Booth, open the Print Layout Editor, set the print width and height in pixels, import the background JPEG, import the overlay PNG, and add captions that use tokens such as {eventName}.
What you need
- A background as a JPEG and an overlay as a PNG, both at the print size. Breeze's example is 1800 x 1200 pixels for a 6 x 4 inch print at 300 dpi.
- The overlay needs transparent areas where the photos show. See the size table.
The steps
- Open the Print Layout Editor. It opens from the Photos tab of the Photo Booth Settings dialog.
- Set the page size. Enter the print width and height in pixels, 1800 x 1200 for a 6 x 4 inch print at 300 dpi, and click Update page size after any change.
- Import the background. Click Import background... and pick the JPEG. Breeze copies it into the screen folder as background.jpg and replaces any existing background.jpg.
- Import the overlay. Click Import overlay... and pick the PNG. Breeze copies it in as overlay.png and replaces any existing overlay.png. It should be the same size as the print.
- Add captions. Right-click the print background and choose Add caption. A caption can use tokens such as {eventName}, which Breeze replaces with the real value when photos are printed.
The layer order
Breeze builds a print in this order: a background color, an optional background.jpg, the photos, then the optional overlay.png, QR codes and captions. The overlay sits above the photos, so its transparent windows are where they show through.
Names and the date for each event
Names that are baked into an imported image do not change. A caption with {eventName} does, because Breeze fills it in per event. If a template uses type in the art, change it in the layered PSD and import the new overlay.
Keep a copy before you import
Each import overwrites the file of the same name in the screen folder, so keep a copy of the background and overlay you are replacing. Breeze's own blog calls a saved layout a Photobooth Print Layout, a pblt file.

How this page was checked
Checked against Breeze Booth's help center and blog on October 13, 2026. We have not yet run these exact steps on a current Breeze Booth install with a downloaded set, so menu names may differ on your version: look for the same word. When we have, this box will say which version and what date.
Questions
- What file types does Breeze Booth accept for a layout?
- A JPEG for the background and a PNG for the overlay. Breeze copies them into the screen folder as background.jpg and overlay.png.
- What size should a Breeze Booth overlay be?
- The same size as the print. Breeze's help gives 1800 x 1200 pixels as its example for a 6 x 4 inch print at 300 dpi, with transparent areas so the photos can be seen.
- How do I make the names change for each event in Breeze?
- Add a caption with a token such as {eventName}. Right-click the print background, choose Add caption, and Breeze replaces the token with the real value when photos are printed.
- Does a Breeze overlay go on top of the photos?
- Yes. Breeze builds a print from a background color, an optional background.jpg, the photos, then an optional overlay.png, QR codes and captions, so the overlay sits above the photos.
- What happens if I import a second overlay in Breeze?
- It replaces the first. Import overlay... saves the PNG as overlay.png in the screen folder and overwrites any existing overlay.png, so keep a copy of the one you want to reuse.
