How to load a template in dslrBooth

To use a template in dslrBooth, now sold as LumaBooth for Windows (dslrBooth), open Print Layout, set the paper size, add the background, then add the overlay PNG on top of it, and print a test strip before the event.

What you need

  • An overlay PNG with clear photo windows, the same size as your print.
  • A background image, PNG or JPG.
  • Sizes: 2x6 strip 600 x 1800, 4x6 landscape 1800 x 1200, 5x7 landscape 2100 x 1500. See the size table.

The steps

  1. Open Print Layout. LumaBooth's help puts the Print Layout button at the top of the start screen. dslrBooth's version 4.9.15 notes point to a Branding menu for the same job, so look for either name.
  2. Set the paper size. Choose a preset or type the width and height. For 2x6 strips, make one 2x6 template and tick Print 2 per page. dslrBooth's version 4.9.15 notes describe it as Branding, Paper Size, then Print 2 per page.
  3. Add the background, then the overlay. Use the Image item to add a JPG or PNG. Add the background first and the overlay PNG second, so the overlay sits on top of the photos.
  4. Place the photo frames. Position each photo frame so it shows through a window in the overlay, and add any live text your template uses.
  5. Print a test strip. Run a real test print before the event and check that every photo shows through its window and the type sits inside the safe area.

Already have a template ZIP?

If the template came as a dslrBooth or LumaBooth ZIP, use Import in Print Layout instead of building it by hand. The Export button in the same place saves one of your own layouts so you can move it to another computer.

Why the overlay goes on top

A booth print is built in layers: the background, then your guests' photos, then the overlay with its clear windows. That is why the overlay is a PNG with transparent areas and why it goes in last. The same order is used by Breeze Booth and LumaBooth on the iPad.

How this page was checked

Checked against the LumaBooth help center and the dslrBooth release notes on October 13, 2026. We have not yet run these exact steps on a current dslrBooth install with a downloaded set, so menu names may differ on your version: look for the same word. When we have, this box will say which version and what date.
